John Alexander Logan was born in Murphysboro, Jackson County, Illinois, USA. He was an American soldier, lawyer and politician. He served in the Mexican-American War and was a general in the Union Army in the American Civil War. He served as Illinois State Senator and a Congressman. He served as the United States Senator from Illinois and House of Representatives from Illinois. He graduated from the Law Department of the University of Louisville in 1851, and practiced law with success. He wrote several books include: The great conspiracy and The Volunteer Soldier of America.
