John David Ashcroft was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He is an American Republican politician and lawyer. He served as the 79th U.S. Attorney General from 2001–2005. He served as Auditor of Missouri, Attorney General of Missouri, and the 50th Governor of Missouri from 1985-1993. He served as Chair of the National Governors Association from 1991-1992. He also served as a U.S. Senator from Missouri from 1995–2001. He earned a BA degree from Yale University in 1964. He earned a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Chicago School of Law in 1967. After law school, he briefly taught Business Law and worked as an administrator at Southwest Missouri State University. He later founded The Ashcroft Group, a Washington D.C. lobbying firm. He has written several books include: Law for business, Relationships in the Nhs (with Geoff Meads), On My Honor, and Never Again: Securing America and Restoring Justice.
