Henry Carter Stuart was born in Wytheville, Virginia, USA. He was an American businessman, farmer and politician. He served as the 47th Governor of Virginia from 1914-1918. He graduated at Emory and Henry College in 1874. He and his two brothers built Stuart Land & Cattle into the largest cattle company east of the Mississippi River, with 50,000 agricultural acres in four counties. The cattle company and other Stuart enterprises also controlled extensive coal and timber reserves.
