Sir John Robert Seeley was born in London, England. He was an English historian. He is most known for his book The Expansion of England. He studied at City of London School. He was elected a fellow and became Classical tutor of Christ's College, Cambridge. In 1863, he was appointed professor of Latin at University College, London. He was made Regius Professor of Modern History at Cambridge University in 1869. He wrote other books include: Ecce Homo, Life and Times of Stein, A Short History of Napoleon the First, The growth of British policy (historical essay), and Introduction to Political Science.
