François Charles Mauriac was born in Bordeaux, France. He was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. In 1952 he won the Nobel Prize in Literature "for the deep spiritual insight and the artistic intensity with which he has in his novels penetrated the drama of human life". He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Légion d'honneur in 1958. He wrote several novels include: L'Enfant Chargé de Chaînes, Thérèse Desqueyroux, Le Noeud de Vipères, Le sagouin, Désert de l'Amour, Les Chemins de la Mer, and La Pharisienne. He wrote several plays include: Asmodée, Les Mal Aimés, Passage du malin, and Le Feu sur terre. He wrote several poetry include: Les Mains jointes, L'Adieu à l'Adolescence, Orages, and Le Sang d'Atys.
