John Davison "Jay" Rockefeller IV was born in New York City, New York, USA. He is an American politician. He served as a United States Senator from West Virginia from 1985 to 2015. He served as Governor of West Virginia from 1977-1985. He was first elected to public office in the state as a member of the House of Delegates in 1966. He was later elected West Virginia Secretary of State in 1968. He studied at Phillips Exeter Academy, International Christian University in Tokyo, and Yale University. He earned a BA degree in Far Eastern Languages and History from Harvard University in 1961.
