Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi was born in Zürich, Switzerland. He was a Swiss educator who exemplified Romanticism in his approach. He founded several educational institutions both in German- and French-speaking regions of Switzerland and wrote many works explaining his revolutionary modern principles of education. His motto was "Learning by head, hand and heart". He studied at the University of Zürich. He wrote several books include: The Evening Hour of a Hermit, Buch Der Mutter, Leonard And Gertrude (novel), Canto del cisne, How Gertrude teaches her children, and The Education of Man.
