Mais toujours magnificent. A poet Is a unique being From an exemplary multitude Who only thinks in verse And only writes in music On diverse subjects Reds and greens But always magnificently.
Boris Vian Quotes
One ends up relying on pure musical inspiration, and failing that, the music won't lead to anything good, or it will alienate all but the most die-hard fans.

Boris Vian was a French polymath: writer, poet, musician, singer, translator, critic, actor, inventor and engineer. He is best remembered today for his novels. Vian was also an important influence on the French jazz scene. He served as liaison for Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington and Miles Davis in Paris, wrote for several French jazz-reviews and published numerous articles dealing with jazz both in the United States and in France. His own music and songs enjoyed popularity during his lifetime, particularly the anti-war song "Le Déserteur". By this time he was an accomplished jazz trumpeter, and in 1943 he wrote his first novel, Trouble dans les andains. His literary career started in 1943 with his first publication, a poem, in the Hot Club de France bulletin.
