Charles Handy was born in Clane, Co. Kildare, Ireland. He is an Irish author, broadcaster and lecturer. He was educated as a boarder at Bromsgrove School and Oriel College, Oxford. Handy's business career started in marketing at Shell International. He left Shell to teach at the London Business School in 1972. He is visiting Professor at the London Business School and consultant to a wide range of organisations in government, business, and the voluntary and educational sectors. In July 2006 he was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Laws by Trinity College, Dublin. He was Chairman of the Royal Society of Arts 1987–89.
