Henry Hampton was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He was an American television producer. He graduated from Washington University in 1961. He was the recipient of over 10 honorary degrees. He founded and ran Blackside Productions; the United States' largest African-American owned documentary film Production Company. Hampton and his company produced over 80 programs including documentaries, television spots, and other media productions. He made a commitment to social justice with later productions, including Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years; and Eyes on the Prize II: America at the Racial Crossroads 1965-mid 1980s.
