Émile Jamil Lahoud was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He is a Lebanese politician, former President of Lebanon, in office from 1998 to 2007. A graduate of Britannia Royal Naval College, a British military school and the Naval War College US, he joined the Lebanese army in 1959, has rose to the rank of General, and then became Head of-state Major of the Army, of 1989 to 1998.
