John Ericsson was born in Långbanshyttan, Värmland, Sweden. He was a Swedish-born American inventor and mechanical engineer. He collaborated on the design of the steam locomotive Novelty, which competed in the Rainhill Trials on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, won by George Stephenson's Rocket. His inventions list shown below: The surface condenser, Hot air engine, USS Monitor, and USS Princeton. He received Rumford Prize in 1862.
