Jefferson Finis Davis was born in Fairview, Kentucky, USA. He was an American Democratic politician who served as the President of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865. He represented Mississippi in the United States Senate from 1847-1851 and from 1857-1861, and the United States House of Representatives from 1845-1846. He was the 23rd United States Secretary of War, serving under President Franklin Pierce from 1853 to 1857. After graduating, he served six years as a lieutenant in the United States Army. He fought in the Mexican–American War, as the colonel of a volunteer regiment. He wrote several books include: The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government, and A Short History of the Confederate States of America.
