Emily Margaret Watson was born in Islington, London, England. She is an English actress. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her debut film role as Bess McNeil in Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves and for her role as Jacqueline du Pré in Hilary and Jackie. She won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for the 2011 ITV drama Appropriate Adult. In 2002, she starred in productions of Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya at the Donmar Warehouse, and was nominated for the 2003 Olivier Award for Best Actress for the latter. Her other movies include: War Horse, The Book Thief, The Theory of Everything, and Everest. In 1988, she obtained a B.A. degree with English from University of Bristol. In 2003, she received an M.A. degree from Bristol University.
