George Carey was born in London, UK. He is a British retired Anglican bishop who was the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1991 to 2002. He graduated in 1962 with a 2:1 Bachelor of Divinity degree and was subsequently ordained. He later obtained a Master of Theology degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Durham. In 1982, he was appointed Principal of Trinity College, Bristol. He is currently the Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire and the London School of Theology. He has written several books include: The church in the market place, God incarnate, Know the Truth: A Memoir, I Believe in Man, Why I believe in a personal God, The gate of glory, and The Great God Robbery.
