Charles Humphrey Keating, Jr was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was an American lawyer, real estate developer, banker, financier and activist best known for his role in the savings and loan scandal of the late 1980s. Keating was a champion swimmer for the University of Cincinnati in the 1940s. In 1945, Keating won the 200 yard breaststroke at the Ohio Intercollegiate Conference championship. In 1948, Keating received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and would later be named a member of the university's Athletic Hall of Fame.
