John Dimitri Negroponte was born in London, UK. He is an American diplomat. He served in the United States Foreign Service from 1960 to 1997. He served as the United States ambassador to a number of countries, including Honduras, Mexico, Philippines, and Iraq. He was the U.S. representative to the United Nations before being named the first director of national intelligence. He also served as the United States Deputy Secretary of State from 2007-2009. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1960. He served as a research fellow and lecturer in international affairs at Yale University's Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. He is currently a J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of International Affairs at the George Washington University.
