Jay Dratler was born in New York City, New York, USA. He was an American screenwriter and novelist. He studied at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, the Sorbonne in France and the University of Vienna, becoming fluent in French and German. He wrote six novels, many screenplays and more than twenty television scripts. He wrote several films include: Girls Under 21, Confessions of Boston Blackie, Meet Boston Blackie, The Wife Takes a Flyer, Fly-by-Night, Get Hep to Love, Laura, Higher and Higher, It's in the Bag!, The Dark Corner, Call Northside 777 (Edgar Award for Best Motion Picture Screenplay- 1949), That Wonderful Urge, Dancing in the Dark, Impact, The Las Vegas Story, We're Not Married!, and I Aim at the Stars. He wrote several novels include: Manhattan Side Street, Ducks in Thunder, The Pitfall, Doctor Paradise, Without Mercy, and Dream of a Woman.
