Henry Fielding was born in Sharpham, Somerset, England. He was an English novelist and playwright best known for his rich, earthy humour and satirical prowess, and as the author of the novel Tom Jones. He educated at Eton College. In 1728, he travelled to Leiden to study classics and law at the university. He wrote other novels include: Shamela, Joseph Andrews, and Amelia. He wrote several plays include: Love in Several Masques, Rape upon Rape, The Grub Street Opera, The Modern Husband, and The Lottery.
