Francis "Frank" McCourt was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. He was an American teacher and writer. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his book, Angela's Ashes, a tragicomic memoir of the misery and squalor of his childhood. In 1957, he graduated from New York University with a bachelor's degree in English. In 1967, he earned a master's degree at Brooklyn College. He taught at six New York schools, including McKee Vocational and Technical High School, Ralph R. McKee CTE High School in Staten Island, and New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn. He wrote several books include: Angela's Ashes, 'Tis: A Memoir, Teacher Man, Angela and the Baby Jesus, and Angela's Ashes and 'Tis.
