George A. Sheehan was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. He was an American physician, senior athlete, and writer best known for his writings about the sport of running. His book, "Running & Being: The Total Experience," became a New York Times best seller. He wrote other books include: George Sheehan on Running to Win, This running life, Dr. Sheehan on Fitness, How to feel great 24 hours a day, and Going the Distance. He was a track star at Manhattan College, from which he graduated in 1940, and earned his medical degree in 1943 from the Long Island College of Medicine.
