Clive James was born in Kogarah, Sydney, Australia. He is an Australian critic, broadcaster, essayist, novelist, poet, songwriter, translator and memoirist best known for his autobiographical series Unreliable Memoirs, for his chat shows and documentaries on British television and for his prolific journalism. He has lived and worked in the United Kingdom since 1962. After graduating, James worked for a year as an assistant editor for The Sydney Morning Herald. In the 2015 BAFTAs, James received a special award honouring his 50-year career.
